Haley Haverson has been working with food catering since she was a little girl. Starting with helping her father with his food vending events and festivals, she learned essential skills in accommodating customers. As she grew older, she moved away from food catering and began diversifying herself in other fields of business. As a teenager, she established the first student run credit union in Virginia Beach public schools history. Besides her interests in the financial sector, Haley has also managed numerous vending stations, including personnel, organization, and operations, at numerous special events, such as the Sandstock Music Festival, American Music Festival, and the Africana Funkfest at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Recently, Haley has made her way back to the food service industry and is primarily focused on providing quality, enjoyable food to her community and ensuring satisfaction in both the service and culinary aspects of Grillworks.
Chef Terry Elliott has worked in the culinary industry for thirty years. He started his journey in 1985 in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area as a dishwasher at Courtney's on 21st street in the Ghent District of Norfolk. After six months, he started prepping and working the fryer. One year later he was the lead line cook. On friday and Saturday nights, in 1990, after an ownership change, Terry moved on to Elliot's Restaurant (no relation) where he worked lunches and was in charge of prep assignments and designing specials. By 1998 Terry was the kitchen manager. Later that summer when Elliot Juren, owner of the restaurant, sold the business, Terry began working with friends at the historic Carriage House. Innovative specials, new menu items and off the hook soups became his signature. Over the seventeen years Terry has been there, the catering business has grown and taken on a life of it's own. Terry has played a major part in that success. As he would cook for lunch customers, he would prep for 300+ people having a catering that night. Terry has also worked as one of the catering field managers in charge of all aspects including set-up, food transport and distribution, and breakdown. Terry's creativity and love of food keeps him in the industry to this day.
Chef Shauna was born DeShaunta Givens. If you ask her about her relationship to the culinary arts she'll tell you, "This is my passion and this what I do from my heart." As a child, she spent all of her free time in the kitchen with her mother, aunts, and grandmothers. She grew with an appreciation for food and cooking because it was and is still such a strong pillar of her family. Being brought up this way pushed her to begin working in the food service industry at the age of 16. After graduating from Granby High School, she then pursued a degree from the Culinary Institute of Virginia, where she learned from and studied under distinguished chefs such as Troy Camacho, Shelley Kilby, and Dave Miller. She recently graduated from the Culinary Institute of Virginia on March 30, 2017. She has been working with us here at Grillworks since March 18, 2017.
